Hello Beautiful Mamma,
It is impossible not to feel deeply affected by this conversation about race and not feel a rise to action. I wanted to be a part of the protests near me over these last days, but being a mother of 3 little children, I have not yet been in a place that I could make that happen, so how am I to be an ally of change in this moment?
My kids (who are too little to know what’s happening) began to unravel in different ways last week. I was paying attention to my phone, and my energy around all of the news was deeply unsettled. Even though I didn’t verbalize a whole lot, children are so perceptive. In all of my searching for what I could do, should do, want or need to do, I was naturally ungrounded and so was not able to be an anchor for my children.
As I have slowly worked to re-center, I can recognize that in this moment, the most powerful way that I can create peace and change in the world is through my mothering. And through supporting mothers and families, so therein lies my call to action.
Right now, Mamas, we are the grassroots activists for this generation of children. How I parent through these moments is the most actionable thing I can focus on in this season of my life.
We all want the world to be a better place and want to be the ones who plant those seeds in our children. As a mother of young kids, while I might feel powerless to rise in some ways, I am actually holding a great deal of power right now.
Within my level of consciousness and earnest striving to do better- to get vulnerable, to be honest and do the deep work, lies the groundwork for my children to be able to participate in a better world as they grow.
Now is the time to reach out and find the tools and support to enable a deep dive into our darkest places. Our children’s future depends on it.
One day they will have their own burden to carry. And they will each respond in their own ways, that is true to their unique life purpose. To plant the seeds for our children to support a better tomorrow, what they need to know from us right now is that they are safe in their world, and that people are good. If we can create a sense of peace, love and safety and presence in our homes, when they grow up and are in a position to facilitate change, they can lean back on that archetype to ensure a world of freedom and protection for all.
By seeking teachers, wisdom and community that will elevate our consciousness and support and guide our mission to go deep, we can peel back the layers. Ask the hard questions. Do the challenging work on our own shadow, and in our own relationships. Most importantly, keep going. Meditate in the discomfort of all of it.
“As within, so without.” Everything we think, feel and do affects the balance of our being which affects our family, our community and the health of the entire world. The world is affecting us right now and in turn we are affecting the world- the web of which we all play our part.
Amidst this trail of destruction and devastation, I refuse to stand quietly or ignorantly, as I unwittingly now realize I have done for so long.
I have had the freedom to think about my choices in birthing and in all areas of my mothering and life. With full awareness that this is a privilege that so many sisters do not have, I vow to be unwavering in my intention to step into my power to change the world.
Through these impactful moments, let your children remind you of what is good in the world. They are our biggest trial, and simultaneously our most tremendous pleasure. They have the power to illuminate and highlight the greatest parts of our life, and inspire us to do better.
Love,
Narelle
